Watching Christmas movies might be one of my favorite parts about Christmas. I think it was mostly because we had a special Christmas movie box that lived in the attic 10 and 1/2 months out of the year. We like to watch a lot of movies in our family. This tradition usually involved (and still does) everybody fighting for a spot on the couch and then impatiently waiting while somebody makes a batch of raw chocolate chip cookie dough. Yep, i can't ever remember a time that that raw chocolate chip cookie dough ever went into the oven in my house growing up. We just like the dough, raw eggs and all and wash it down with a tall glass of water, b/c the water, it gets rid of the raw egg effects.
During Christmas movie watching was particularly amazing for me because i memorized the entire contents of the box and always knew which movies I wanted to watch as soon as the box was out of the attic. Here are a few of my favs...
obvious classic. leg lamp and all
as much as i love this movie, it always makes me sad and depressed. but i watch it anyways!
another obvious no brainer. possibly my overall favorite.

Starting this year I am adding the NBC show 'Community's Christmas claymation episode to the line up.
I am a claymation junkie. Seriously. So when Community did a claymation spoof, I knew that all of my enjoyment of childhood claymation Christmas specials had payed off.
This year is the first year I will not go home for Christmas and it has been pretty hard to think about. I miss my family like crazy this year. And honestly I just love going home for Christmas. We (my mother) always makes it extra special in some way or another. I love that most all of my family comes into town and gets together and eats way too much guacamole and queso (even if we are eating things like ham or BBQ). And then, there is always family Christmas Brunch! which is to die for. No joke. People wish that they were part of our family just to enjoy this. I am crying right now just at the thought of missing it.
This year I will be spending Christmas in Salzburg, Austria. By myself for 4 days. I think it will be an interesting time with the possibility for lots of adventures. My first European trip by myself. Anytime I tell people this they immediately give me the 'awww. how sad' response. But heck, i will be in Austria, with snow, and Christmas markets, and in the town they filmed The Sound of Music in, and having lots of adventures. And heck, it is only for one year. And it just means that maybe next year will be extra special.

never underestimate the power of claymation Christmas movies. ever.
